Territorial healthcare and integrated medical services and the use of new technologies will be the themes at the center of the conference “Proximity medicine: new answers for complex needs” which will be held on 28 October 2025 at 3 pm in Palermo, as part of the fifth edition of ExpoMedicina, the Euro-Mediterranean Exhibition of Technological Innovation in Healthcare which will take place from 26 to 29 October at the Fiera del Mediterraneo.
The conference, organized by the ASP of Messina, will be an open discussion between professionals and institutions on a topical topic: how public health can and should be closer to people, through innovation, prevention and new organizational models that put citizens and their needs first. After the Covid experience, the management of public health, its limits and at the same time the possibilities offered by digitalisation and investments from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, are at the center of public debate.
We will discuss new organizational models for local medicine, naturally, with particular attention to the management paths, how to guarantee and ensure continuity of care. Of the “humanization of care” and how this is made possible thanks to the help of new technologies made available to citizens. Some important innovations created by the ASP of Messina will be presented such as the drones that transport blood and medicines from the hospital of Patti to that of Lipari, the road safety education project which will be presented in schools after having been illustrated in motorway junctions, in squares, in beaches and on ferries and hydrofoils, telemedicine in prison and the continuity of care App which, thanks to new technologies, allow us to be closer to patients and their needs.
And again, the essential role of health institutions and companies in identifying and implementing management models capable of addressing the great difficulties of our health service, starting from the drama of staff shortages, and guaranteeing responses to a system that must primarily maintain its character of equality and universalism. There will also be examples of proximity experiences and good practices.
The event, moderated by the professionalism of the Deputy Director of Rainews24, Tindara Cccetto, with institutional greetings from the Councilor for Health of the Sicily Region, Dr. Daniela Faraoni, will see a succession of interventions by the former Undersecretary for Health with the Draghi government and today Consultant to the ministry, Andrea Costa, who will talk about “Pnrr and the opportunities for our NHS”, continuing with the General Director of the ASP Messina, Doctor Giuseppe Cuccì, who will talk about the humanity of care and the small “gentle revolution” implemented since the beginning of his mandate and how technology, if put at the service of patients and their families, can bring the NHS and its services closer to people (“ASP Messina, the health closest to you”). Afterwards, the Health Director of the ASP of Palermo, Doctor Antonino Levita, will talk about the model tested under his direction “The traveling Open day of prevention of the ASP Palermo: a model of proximity healthcare in
Sicily”, while Noemi Lopes, Deputy General Secretary of FIMMG, Italian Federation of General Practitioners, will present “The point of view of family doctors”, who constitute the first major gateway into the process of welcoming and treating patients.
In conclusion, it will be up to Dr. Paolo Ursillo, Agenas manager, to explain the new organizational models for territorial medicine: the reform of Ministerial Decree 77/2022 and the latest monitoring results.
