The work of the purification sub-commissioner Tonino Daffinà continues without interruption. Between the Pollino and the Strait, without neglecting the internal areas, financing, contract signings and, above all, construction sites see the light after many years of stalemate. The goal? Allow a significant number of Calabrian municipalities to emerge from the European infringement procedure, 2014-2059.
Today, despite the adverse weather conditions, was a decidedly positive day for Motta San Giovanni. In the center of Reggino, in fact, the long-awaited green disc has arrived at the construction site aimed at carrying out the works to complete the sewerage networks and build the new collector at the Oliveto purification plant. A process followed closely by the sub-commissioner of purification, in its many stages: in May 2025 the contract was signed, in the middle of summer it was the turn of the construction site to be handed over, followed closely by the expropriation procedure – a far from simple operation – up to the start of the works.
Obviously, the rup Giulio Palma was also there this morning to supervise the construction site, appointed by the sub-commissioner Daffinà, who operates, as always, in close synergy and full unity of purpose with that of the national commissioner Fabio Fatuzzo. The works, for a total of 5,207,643, 18 euros, will be completed by the company Colombrita Srl, winner of the tender, carried out through the procedure negotiated with Invitalia Spa.
The expected time is just over nine months, that is, 280 days. In addition to the center of Motta, the completion and optimization of the sewerage network will also take place in the hamlet of Cambareri with a precise strategy that aims at a well-defined objective by the sub-commissioner structure: to collect all the wastewater serving approximately 3,500 equivalent inhabitants, at the wastewater treatment plant being established in the Oliveto di Lazzaro area.
In summary, the intervention involves the construction of new gravity sewer collectors with the exception of some pressurized sections in the area located near the historic centre, the creation of 6 newly built lifting systems and the adaptation of 3 existing lifting systems”.
Significant step forward obtained thanks to the updating of the design, at the time (in 2014 to be exact) drawn up as part of the procedure initiated by the Municipality, pursued by the sub-commissioner for purification with delegation for Calabria, now the new Implementing Body of the intervention, who, in the month of November 2024, had approved the executive project, updated and adapted by the engineer. Domenico Costantino, and delegated the conduct of the negotiated procedure for the assignment of the works to Invitalia SpA.
“A new construction site that opens represents for this structure – commented Tonino Daffinà – yet another testimony that even the most complex situations can be brought to completion. As far as the municipality of Motta San Giovanni is concerned, the perfect synergy with the municipal administration was also fundamental to avoid that an extremely complex practice could get bogged down in the peripheral offices, often short of human resources. Therefore, after the design and assignment with the related expropriation procedures, the start of the works marks a point of no return with respect to the need to look ahead in this and other centers burdened by the community infringement procedure, to return our Calabria to its beauty and purity that mother nature has given it”.
