Messina recovers two positions compared to 2023. But it is a fact that does not console. Our province remains in position 103, which means full relegation zone, with only Cosenza, Agrigento, Reggio Calabria and bottom of the list, Caltanissetta, behind. We are approaching the end of the year and, punctually like the installments falling due, the rankings on “Quality of life” arrive, first the one drawn up by “Italia Oggi” (together with the company “Ital Communications” and the support of the University “La Sapienza” of Rome), then it will be the turn of the “Sole 24 Ore”.
Was it all an illusion, therefore, that linked to the Report on the Urban Ecosystem, published recently, which had seen our city gain 28 positions and arrive sixty-eighth? It would seem so, given that we find ourselves confined once again in a sort of ravine, into which all or almost all of the cities of the South fall, one after the other. Even in this case, however, as has been repeated for decades, we must take these rankings with a pinch of salt which, certainly, offer valuable food for thought, but which are based on criteria and indicators which can be discussed for a long time. The split in Italy is certified, as has always happened so far, by these rankings but seeing provinces such as those of Pordenone, Nuoro or Potenza much higher up, some doubts arise, with all due respect for these charming localities.
