Last. Once again. Il Sole 24 Ore’s ranking on quality of life confirms the city of the Strait in 107th place. Ninety indicators, indices which in 6 groups photograph the territory. And Reggio is confirmed last in 27 of the 90 indicators. Faced with these results, even the usual defense of those who contest a partial and contradictory analysis should give up. It is certainly true that the top ten is entirely northern (Trento, Bolzano and Udine on the podium) while in the last 22 rankings there continue to be southern provinces, but the fact that the country is sadly divided is nothing new. And it is true that the flows of financing that are often disbursed according to a “historical” basis continue to reward the North. What is new is the inability to improve, despite the many opportunities that have arrived through extra-budgetary funds from the Pnrr channels, from projects financed by Europe. The new ruling class that the city is called upon to choose in the spring will have to start from these data.

Business and work

If in 2024 the province was in over 100th position in 16 indicators out of 90, after a year the indicators reached 27. An unequivocal signal of an overall lowering of living conditions. In the last step of the ranking for business and work (the data is the result of an analysis of Istat, Ispra, Bank of Italy, Inpia, Prometeia, Infocamere and Tagliacrne) Reggio is last with 286 points, while Milan is in second place with 754. Furthermore, 40.6% of families have an ISEE income of under seven thousand euros, while the average per capita income is just over 15 thousand euros. And with an inflation of 2%, double the national one. The macro area of Business and Work sees the city in the last positions of almost all indicators. Third to last in the employment rate, in youth unemployment and in participation in continuing training. The number of graduates continues to decrease.
