Race against time for a three-month-old baby taken on an emergency flight from Catanzaro to Rome

Emergency medical flight for a three-month-old baby who, due to a serious pathology, needed to be transferred as quickly as possible from the Renato Dulbecco University Hospital in Catanzaro to the Agostino Gemelli University Hospital in Rome.

The life-saving flight, requested by the Prefecture of Catanzaro, was carried out by a crew of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, one of the flight departments of the Air Force which ensures 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, aircraft and crews ready to take off quickly for this type of mission.

The G-650 took off from Lamezia Terme airport shortly after 3.30pm with the little patient on board, accompanied by his parents and constantly monitored during the journey by a medical team made up of a doctor and a nurse.

After about an hour of flight, the plane landed at Rome Ciampino airport, where the newborn was immediately transferred by ambulance to the destination hospital to receive the necessary care. The transport was authorized and coordinated by the Top Situation Room of the Air Squadron Command, the operations room of the Air Force which manages, among other things, also the fleet of state aircraft at the disposal of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
