Sport and culture as a tool of union and hope. This, in summary, the message that the Diocesan Caritas of Lamezia Terme intended to launch with “A Mille Storie”, the initiative that lived on the occasion of the World Refugee Day.
This year, in fact, it was decided to organize a Football quadrangle inside the “San Luigi Gonzaga” diocesan sports center to spend an afternoon of sport But also and above all in the name of hope. At a time when there are many conflicts in the world that are devastating entire territories, leaving behind the scie of blood and destruction, the Caritas of Lamezia Terme has sent a message of peace and hope. This is thanks to one of the best known and most practiced sports in the world: football that, in this case, has become a sort of universal language capable of combining different cultures and telling stories of life and hope.
But, not only.
In fact, while echoes of bombings come from the world where the innocent victims are above all children to whom, not only is life again, but, for those who survive, childhood is also denied with its light -heartedness and innocenceCaritas, in collaboration with the Lametine librarian system, also thought of the little ones by organizing animated readings and thematic workshops for them.
After bringing the greetings of the Bishop, Monsignor to all participants Serafino Parisiwho encouraged and supported the initiative, the director of Caritas, Don Fabio Stanizzo, at the end of the day, said: “We all lived together, beyond nationality and/or age, an experience of community, dialogue and welcome. It was a moment of celebration and aggregation where solidarity was the protagonist”.
