Reggina is looking for the goalscorer that, numbers in hand, it did not have at the center of the attack last season. The most authoritative candidate for characteristics, at this moment and while waiting for some other important reinforcements to arrive, it is Bruno Barranco. Twenty goals in the last Serie D tournament between Albenga and Folgore Caratese. The goal is to get as close as possible to repeating that feat, because those are the right numbers for the centre-forward of a team aiming to win the championship.
“This – admitted the Argentine striker – is an important shirt. I am working to guarantee the best and give a hand to reach the objective”. Last season, the new Amaranth striker was one of the most prolific strikers in all the groups in Serie D. However, he doesn’t live just for goals. “I’m a finisher,” he said, “and I obviously like to score, but I also contribute by staying in the area and working for the team.” In the joint training sessions, Barranco showed great ability in attacking the depth and a decent feeling with the opponent’s goal. Even though it’s August football, scoring a goal is always a feeling that gives confidence to those who play up front. Up until now, Pergolizzi’s Reggina has mainly tried the 3-5-2, a formation in which Barranco can occupy both attacking positions. “In my career,” he explained, “I’ve played both as a lone striker and with a teammate alongside me. I feel comfortable in both situations.”
Positive feelings, however, are those he had from the environment. «There is – he revealed – a demanding coach and here I feel great with everyone. A great group is forming and everyone can play». Due to a pending disqualification from last season he will have to miss the championship debut on the field of Igea Virtus. His first two matches in amaranth could both be at the “Granillo”: in the Cup on September 1st with Vibonese, then on the 15th with Scafatese in the second round of the championship). «I can’t wait – Barranco stressed – for the first home game to arrive, to try to score in front of our fans». Few words and a lot of pragmatism for the Argentine striker who makes only one promise to the supporters: «I will give my all every minute for this shirt».
Yesterday, meanwhile, the twenty-second day of retreat ended at Sant’Agata. The team had a double session that anticipated the four days of rest that Pergolizzi granted to the group around Ferragosto.
The restart is scheduled for Saturday at 17:30. We will enter a phase in which we will start in earnest with the technical-tactical preparation, with four joint training sessions before the end of the month. We could start on Monday 19th with Melito, for an appointment originally scheduled for the previous day, then Palmese (August 21st), Ardore (the 25th) and Val Gallico (the 28th).
