The Mediterranean Foundation launches an appeal in favor of the metropolitan city and the delegations and functions that has been chasing for 10 years.
«That the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria is a geographical Monstrum is a fact: just think that its surface is 10 times greater than that of the metropolitan city of Naples, despite having a tenth of its inhabitants. Little and infrastructured evil – to go from Reggio to Caulonia it takes more time than to go from Milan to Lugano -, our Metro City is so large as to contain the entire Aspromonte park inside, a unique case in the world of a city who has “his” national park. Yet this handicap, if well managed, could be an advantage from a tourist and logistical and agricultural and industrial point of view. However – warns the president of the Mediterranean Foundation Enzo Vitale – The metropolitan city Reggina languishes and not only because of its administrators. Although large enough to be a small autonomous region – Molise has more or less half of the inhabitants of the former Reggina province and a slightly higher surface -, has not yet received delegations and functions from the Calabria Region. The Law Delrio imposes it but the Calabria Region, despite having deliberated in 2014 that by 31 December 2015 it would have operated the transfers, has not yet done so. 10 years have passed and everything is silent, despite formal interventions to which you don’t even answer (last that of 23 January last). All the other Italian metropolitan cities, who before those who after, all have already had proxies and functions from their respective regions in 2015. Only Reggio is missing, which thus suffers the anomaly of being a Monco entity. The mayor Falcomatà did well to bring the case to national level with a formal complaint of this absurdity at the coordination table of the metropolitan city of the ANCI, who approved his intervention. We will see ».
