The Vice President of the Council and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani arrived in Reggio Calabria and met the President of the Calabria Region Roberto Occhiuto at Palazzo Campanella. Calabria is the second stage of the “system mission to support the productive fabric” in the regions hit hard by the natural disasters of last January.
«Calabria is another of the regions affected by the flood that hit the south of our country. We took stock of the situation with President Occhiuto and I made ICE, Simest, Sace, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti Venture Capital available to the regional government, therefore to the citizens of Calabria, to provide all the financial tools useful to companies affected by the storm, especially companies that are linked to exports, but also to those that are part of the export chain”. This was said by the Vice President of the Council and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani during a press point next to the President of the Calabria Region Roberto Occhiuto at Palazzo Campanella.
«Simest is making 300 million available for this disaster for the three regions, then there will be an intervention by Ice, Sace will give guarantees, then CDP will make other interventions. We have also created an emergency number for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which will then process requests from individual entrepreneurs. So we are close to the Calabria Region, I believe the government gave answers to the citizens very promptly, we will continue to work because we will try to soothe the wounds suffered by this region even when the spotlights are turned off”, he added, assuring that “we will also help small businesses”. On the government decree for the flood “the times will be quick, the funds depend on what will be the overall analysis of the damage suffered and I believe it will take a few more weeks”, explained the Foreign Minister. «In fact, civil protection will make a complete analysis when it presents the report for the request to participate and to have the European Solidarity Fund. There are damages that are not always immediately quantifiable, so you have to work intensely, but without giving risky numbers first. Then it is obvious that we are talking about hundreds and hundreds of millions, but let’s quantify it well so that a concrete answer can be given as quickly as possible”, he concluded.

«I want to express thanks to Antonio Tajani for the closeness he immediately showed to Calabria, to my regional government, for calling me immediately after the damage caused by the cyclone a few weeks ago». Thus the President of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto, during the meeting in Reggio Calabria with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, the mayors, administrators, businesses and national business support agencies for the damage caused by bad weather. «I am proud of the fact that Calabria – he said – has demonstrated great efficiency today, because we have already opened the portal intended for Calabrian mayors and businesses to be able to request compensation for damages. Even though we have not yet received the transfer of the first tranche already made available to the government, the first 35 million euros, we have decided to move forward, opening a portal where it is possible to upload the damages suffered. In this way we expect to speed up as much as possible the compensation for damages to the Municipalities, but above all to companies”. Occhiuto concluded by underlining the commitment of the regional Civil Protection «which thanks to extraordinary volunteers has meant that today we unfortunately counted the damage, but not the victims. We have demonstrated that we are a country, even in the South, that has high-quality civil protection and a volunteer system made up of great excellence”
