Threats, psychological pressure and the fear of seeing an intimate video online. This is the context behind a sexual extortion discovered by the Carabinieri of the Reggio Calabria Rione Modena station, thanks to the complaint of a man who found the courage to contact the police.
According to what was ascertained by investigators, the victim had had a paid sexual relationship with a young woman living in the city. After the meeting, she allegedly began a series of threatening phone calls, demanding sums of money in exchange for a promise not to disclose a video of them together. A blackmail that had put the man in a strong state of anxiety, finally pushing him to report everything to the police.
The operation: the blitz during the delivery of the money
Having collected the victim’s story, the military set up a targeted service to document the extortion. At the time established for the delivery of the money, the police intervened inside the woman’s home, surprising her immediately after receiving the money. 200 euros were found in the young woman’s jacket, believed to have just been extorted from the victim. During the operation, the woman’s partner attempted to obstruct the entry of the soldiers, ending up reported for resisting a public official.

The intervention also made it possible to seize the camera used to record the intimate images, considered by investigators to be a central element of the extortion mechanism.
A submerged phenomenon
The police underline how cases of this type, unfortunately on the rise, often remain hidden due to the sense of shame felt by the victims. In this episode, the prompt reporting made it possible to interrupt a blackmail that was probably destined to continue over time. At the end of the investigations, the woman was placed under house arrest, on the orders of the Judicial Authority.
