The gang of criminals was made up of four men from Catania: the two who entered the house, the other two waiting outside in the car.
Francesco Putortì he continues to be burdened by a precautionary measure in prison especially after the confirmation of the precautionary custody order by the Court of Liberty. The review judges, despite the detailed defense thesis supported by the lawyers Giulia Dieni and Natale Polimeni, did not substantially believe the reasons put forward by Putortì himself. From someone who was the victim of a theft in his home, to someone who found two thieves in his house rummaging through his and his family’s belongings, after having already grabbed money and valuables, opened the safe and took possession of two legally held pistols. The review panel has recently filed the reasons for which it confirmed the contested order. Starting from Putortì’s violent reaction: «The absence of any trace of the contrast, as well as of “cast off” blood spatters (in the terms clarified by the RIS of Messina), convinces that, at the sight of the two strangers, Putortì resolutely struck them repeatedly with knife blows.: five-six with penetrating direction, two of which to the abdomen and right side of Stancampiano (who parried a third blow with his left arm), three to the rear thorax and lumbar area of Bruno, while he was trying to escape down the stairs. If he had brandished the knife to try to blindly defend himself while he was being attacked (according to the story offered to the investigating judge), one or more blood spurts from the bloody blade would have been distributed in the area where the fight took place».
