The Department of Agriculture of the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria consolidates its presence in the Calabrian territory. In the council chamber of the Municipality of Sersale (CZ), the memorandum of understanding with the Valli Cupe Regional Nature Reserve was officially signed, a strategic agreement which sees the Department at the forefront in promoting joint research, teaching and Third Mission activities.

The pillars of collaboration: research, training and dissemination

The Department of Agriculture makes its excellent scientific skills available to the territory to guide sustainable development and environmental protection through fundamental pillars: advanced scientific research: The department will lead scientific studies on natural resources, forests, biodiversity and environmental monitoring; higher education and internships: students will benefit from field training courses, seminars and cutting-edge scientific events; the third mission and dissemination: transfer of scientific knowledge directly to the community and valorization of local heritage.

Forestry and Environmental Sciences: teaching goes into the field

The protocol is not just a formalized agreement, but an already operational reality. During the meeting, the educational and dissemination activities that the students of the degree course in Forestry and Environmental Sciences of the Department of Agriculture are already carrying out in the Reserve were presented. These field experiences are focused on direct knowledge of forest ecosystems, the active protection of local biodiversity and the strategic valorisation of Calabria’s environmental heritage.
