Alessandro Giordano is 36 years old, lives in Reggio Calabria and since he had eight he has been forced to deal with a disease that forced him to dialysis for 16 long years. Then the kidney transplantbut the risks for his life remain, forced as it is, in his condition, to live in an unsuitable house.

A few days ago Alessandro thus decided to launch a petition on the Change.org platform to ask for the assignment of popular accommodation and, in 48 hours, his online appeal was signed by 31 thousand people. “My life – he says – has constantly hung on a precarious balance: each infection can compromise my kidney, each bacterium can become an enemy. Yet to worsen things you don’t only put the disease but the institutions ». In 2006, he told him, he had been assigned a popular house in Arghillà, a popular neighborhood of Reggio Calabria. In 2008, however, he was forced to leave for a life -saving intervention and, on his return, discovered that his apartment had been occupied and destroyed and the furniture stolen.

«It was – explains Giordano – of an illegal occupation consumed in the total silence of the institutions. Since then my ordeal has begun, which lasts to date. I tried to solicit institutions in every way with complaints, pecs and requests for assignment of another house, but nothing. Nobody listens to me and nobody assumes his responsibilities ». But there is more, according to the 36 -year -old’s story. «In addition to the damage – he says – the mockery: I am understood to me that for ‘obtained another house, I should have paid from 20 to 25 thousand euros. And this in exchange for a right that is up to me. Without evidence, I could not report, but today, after years, the truth emerged. In fact, some of those names emerged in the journalistic investigations on the abuses of the Interp of Reggio Calabria ». Despite this, Alexander’s drama does not attenuate. “Today I live for rent – he says again – in a house certified by the provincial health company as inidonea, with mold everywhere, mushrooms, water infiltrations, constant humidity. For an immunosuppressive like me, a highly dangerous environment. I had more hospitalizations, for 12 days each, due to very serious respiratory infections treated with intravenous antibiotics. My request is that the Municipality of Reggio Calabria and The Aterp immediately assign me a suitable accommodation and that the responsibility for the omissions committed against me is ascertained.
