Crackdown on road and urban safety by the Carabinieri over the weekend just ended. Impressive checks by the companies of Messina Centro, Messina Sud, Milazzo and Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto. The operational budget traced by the Army shows more than 280 vehicles stopped and over 400 people identified during the checkpoints located along the main arteries.
There are 23 people referred in a state of freedom to the Judicial Authority. Of these, 9 were caught driving while intoxicated and 7 were under the influence of drugs.
The controls also arrested 6 people for illegal carrying of prohibited knives and 1 for material forgery. The Highway Code bill is heavy, with 80 high fines for a total amount exceeding 35,000 euros and a total of 141 points deducted from driving licences.
Drug consumption and dealing are also targeted. 16 people – aged between 22 and 50 – were reported to the Prefecture of Messina as hirers. They were found in possession of small quantities of marijuana, hashish and crack for personal use. The drugs were seized and sent to the Carabinieri of the RIS of Messina for laboratory analysis.
