On the one hand there is its commercial soul to be preserved, on the other the intention to reconnect the port to the rest of the city, making it part of the daily life of the people of Reggio. An arduous task that the Strait Port System Authority is trying to pursue, also through a careful analysis of the use of spaces within the terminal and careful planning that can reconcile the two positions. The president of ADSPS Ciccio Rizzo is well aware of the enormous effort that the Authority is called upon to make, but he is equally convinced that the path taken is the right one.

«I don’t know if the city perceives our effort – says Rizzo – I say that Reggio Calabria, after having become aware of its seafront, must also begin to become aware of its port, begin to love and understand it, then that will be a turning point. The Vespucci demonstration in May, for example, demonstrated how the port was the protagonist not only of Reggio Calabria, but of the entire Strait of Messina. Think about when the Sea Museum will be completed, adjacent to the Ponente quay which will host the cruise industry. The museum will add cultural and tourist centrality and change the idea of conceiving the Strait. The port, however, cannot only be about culture and tourism, because at the same time its commercial and transport prerogatives must also be respected.”
