Road haulage in crisis in Calabria: increases in diesel prices and liquidity, the sector requires urgent interventions

On a national level, the road haulage sector is awaiting a discussion with the Ministry of Transport and the implementing decree for the release of the extraordinary tax credit. Among the main requests are the immediate compensation of the excise duty refund, without waiting the expected 60 days, and the temporary suspension of contributions, measures considered fundamental to guarantee greater liquidity for companies.

As regards the regional level, yesterday 29 April – declares Mario Pansini, together with Notaro Domenico and Damino Comito, as representatives of the Calabrian trade association Fedralog – we had an important discussion with the councilor Gianluca Gallo of the Calabria Region, whom I thank for the availability and attention shown towards our sector.

The meeting focused on a very serious problem: the increase in diesel fuel which, together with the other costs that companies incur on a daily basis, is causing great difficulty for the sector. We have now reached a critical point, in which many companies are no longer able to continue their activity and are forced to stop or, in the most serious cases, to close.

During the discussion, the critical issues that operators are facing were clearly represented, highlighting how the situation has repercussions not only on transport companies, but on the entire logistics and production chain of the area.

“We have not limited ourselves to reporting the problems, but we have also put forward a series of concrete proposals, which the Region will be able to evaluate, aimed at providing forms of economic support for Calabrian transporters, so as to at least partially alleviate the impact of the price increases. We are aware that there are no immediate solutions, but we believe it is essential to have started a process of serious and constructive institutional discussion. At the same time, we maintain a responsible attitude: we carefully await positive feedback from the regional administration. Freight transport represents a pillar of the economy and requires interventions concrete and timely”.

A further meeting with the Economic Development Department of the Calabria Region is scheduled for next week, during which the discussion will continue with the aim of identifying effective solutions to support the sector.
