Another intimidating act in Roccabernarda. This time the victim is the engineer Francesco Galatà who had twelve olive trees of his property cut down in the last few hours. This was made known in the evening by Luigi Foresta, mayor of the small town in the Crotone hinterland, who expressed solidarity and support for the unfortunate victim. “The municipal administration – we read in a short note from the institution – firmly condemns a serious and deplorable gesture, which not only affects a person esteemed and appreciated by the community, but represents an offense to the values of legality, civil coexistence and respect that must distinguish our territory”. And again: «In the face of similar episodes, the entire community must feel united in condemning all forms of intimidation and violence, strongly reaffirming its trust in the institutions and in the State». Hence the trust of the municipal executive placed in the police – concludes the mayor – “so that those responsible can be identified and the circumstances and motivations behind such a serious act clarified”. But there are no new episodes of this kind in Roccabernarda. In the past, judicial investigations have documented how both the ‘Ndrangheta and common crime intimidated victims: on the one hand by cutting down trees and on the other by slaughtering farm animals.
