The talks in the Kremlin were “useful and constructive”, but Russian President Vladimir Putin told American interlocutors that Russia could agree to “something” in the US plan for Ukraine, while “something arouses criticism from the Russian side”, said Russian presidential advisor Yuri Ushakov, quoted by Ria Novosti.

«A compromise has not yet been found» therefore between Russia and the USA for peace in Ukraine after the talks in the Kremlin. “Some American proposals appear more or less acceptable”, but “there is still a lot of work to do”, he pointed out.

On the US side, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared that “some progress” had been made in talks with Russia to end the war with Ukraine. “What we’ve tried to do, and I think we’ve made some progress, is figure out what Ukrainians could live with that gives them security for the future,” Rubio told the host in a Fox News interview, adding that the United States hopes the compromise will “allow” Ukrainians “not only to rebuild their economy, but to prosper as a country.”

Meanwhile, there is an agreement in the trilogue between the EU Council and the European Parliament on the regulation to gradually eliminate imports of Russian natural gas. The regulation introduces a phased and legally binding ban on imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and pipeline gas from Russia, with a total ban from the end of 2026 and autumn 2027 respectively. The agreement will need to be ratified by the 27 and the Plenary. “Finally, and forever, we are turning off the tap of Russian gas. We will never return to our dangerous dependence on Russia,” underlined Commissioner Dan Jorgensen.
