Today, agents of the State Police gave execution of the personal precautionary measure application order issued by the Judge for preliminary investigations of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, with which they were disposed of house arrest with electronic bracelet against a forty-three year old man resident in San Filippo del Mela, already known to the police.

The man is held allegedly responsible for the crime of domestic abuse against his ex-wife from whom he was separated; the conduct, which began in May last year, would have been repeated up to the present day and, on some occasions, would also have occurred in the presence of the couple’s youngest son. The measure arises from intense investigations carried out by the policemen of the Milazzo PS Commissariat, under the directives of the Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto Public Prosecutor’s Office, directed by the Chief Prosecutor Dr. Giuseppe Verzera. The activity made it possible to clarify, with timely confirmation, the existence of serious indications of guilt against today’s arrested man. The man, already previously convicted for domestic abuse committed to the detriment of the same victim, despite receiving the additional measure of approach ban issued by the judge, he used to go to the woman’s house, towards whom he continued to behave aggressively and use abusive expressions, making her understand that he was controlling her movements.

He had also ordered her not to date other men, going so far as to tell her that she was only “his and that’s it”. Furthermore, after discovering that the woman was having a friendship with a man, he showed up at the latter’s house, damaging his car. His determination had reached the point that, on one occasion, the man had taken the woman’s car keys and on another occasion he had stolen her phone.

The latest violent conduct occurred a few days before the issuing of the precautionary measure carried out today. In the circumstance, the man, with his own car, after having followed the victim who was on board his vehicle in the company of his friend, had approached her and tried to open the door. Although the woman had resumed her march, he began to chase her, attempting to ram her twice. Finally, after managing to block the woman’s vehicle, he punched the window, miming the gesture of cutting her throat. The numerous and repeated violent conduct had caused the victim to suffer a serious and persistent state of anxiety as well as a well-founded fear for his own safety. After the usual formalities, the agents of the Milazzo police station therefore took the man to the home of a relative in Milazzo, where he was placed under house arrest with an electronic bracelet, at the disposal of the prosecuting judicial authority.
