The Carabinieri of Reggio Calabria, 66 years after the murder, remembered the sacrifice of the chosen Carabiniere Pasquale Camarda. The ceremony took place in San Giorgio Morgeto, a municipality in the Piana di Gioia Tauro, where a laurel wreath was laid by civil and religious authorities, in the presence of the family of the brave carabiniere. Enlisted in the Army on 9 February 1948, Pasquale Camarda was born in Oliveri (ME) on 21 December 1927.

From 6 May 1956, he served at the San Giorgio carabinieri station, distinguishing himself for his determination and great professionalism in carrying out the daily institute service. On 3 January 1960, during a territorial control service, he intervened together with the interim commander of the station in a local bar after having noticed the presence of three criminals from San Giorgio Morgeto in the company of two unknown people, one of whom, at the sight of the soldiers, threatened the non-commissioned officer by pointing a gun at his side. Camarda immediately reacted by engaging in a firefight, wounding one of the attackers, but during the shootout he was fatally shot. Pasquale Camarda had already distinguished himself some time before his death by shielding with his body a little girl who had accidentally found herself passing through an area where there was an ongoing firefight between the police and some criminals.
