Sara Campanella was a girl full of light, dreams, love for life. A university colleague killed her who persecuted her. His life was broken by a violent hand, but his dreams, his spirit and example continue to live, strong more than ever and, today, one month after the femicide of Messina, his brother Claudio, with his mother and dad next to him, wanted to tell them taking inspiration from a letter that Sara had written to a friend on her birthday. Lines that are a testament of the soul, in which everything that the young man was perceived: his vitality, his determination, his strength of mind and the courage to believe in itself.

Sara spoke of life, love for himself and for others, of the right to express their emotions without fear.

“The letter – makes his brother Claudio understand – was not only the wish for a friend’s birthday: it was the synthesis of his existence”. It is the legacy that leaves us, a hymn to life, freedom and respect.

“In a world where Patriarchate continues to suffocate the freedoms and choices of women, Sara was imposed with sweetness and firmness, with sensitivity and strength. With her example he asks us – and requires us – to love us more, to respect us, to be next to those who are fragile” says Claudio.

“Sara – the brother continues – he loved to say:” The woman is freedom. “And it is this freedom, his, that we must keep like a lighthouse. Sara was all this: a kind and determined girl, respectful, smiling, daughter of a family who taught her the value of sacrifice and humility. He studied with passion, faced every difficulty with determination and dignity. He already had the summer holidays with his friends, he had a great dreams, Great. He loved the sea, animals, life.

“Today – continues Claudio – With pain and anger, we launch an appeal to the institutions: Just underestimate violence against women. New, clear, hard laws are needed against Eppi and wicked crimes, ad hoc laws for feminicides. We ask for certain penalties and life sentence for those who are staining with femicide. And that’s not enough. A radical cultural change is needed, which starts from politics, all society.

We, Sara’s family, promise that her dreams will not be lost. We will assemble them as a puzzle, piece by piece. We will be his voice, strong, tireless, in the name of justice“.

Finally, Claudio thanked those who were next to the Campanella family in a heartbreaking moment: the mayor of Messina Federico Basilethe rector of the University of Messina Giovanna Spatariuniversity teachers, the doctors of the Polyclinic of Messina, the Bishop Giovanni Accollathe command of the carabinieri of Messina, in particular the colonel Lucio Arcidiaconothe lieutenants Giuseppe Caroleo and Antonio Tavilla, the Maggiore Pagnano.

To you, sweet Saretta – concluded Claudio – We promise that we will be your voice and we will shout stronger for your justice “.

“Sara lives” It was the scream of Claudio who torn the silence in the square of the rectorate of the University of Messina. And it is the promise of a family that will never give up on the possibility that Sara will be “killed” again.
