Dramatic twist in Shanghai. Valentin Vacherot is the first finalist in the penultimate ATP Masters 1000 of the season, taking place on the hard courts of China’s economic capital.
The 26-year-old Monegasque tennis player, coming from the qualifiers and 204th in the world ranking, eliminated the Serbian Novak Djokovic, fifth in the world ranking and fourth place in the draw, in the semi-final with a score of 6-3 6-4. The former world number 1 required a medical time-out in the first set. In the second semi-final they will face the Russian Daniil Medvedev, n.18 ATP and 16th seed, and the French Arthur Rinderknech, 54th in the world ranking.
