Jannik Sinner qualified for the final of the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam by beating the Dutch Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4. Access to the final guarantees the Italian the rise to third place in the world ranking, which could already be certified in next Monday’s ranking if he were to beat the Australian Alex De Minaur today, but in any case it will be certified in that of 26 February.
However the final of the ATP 500 in Rotterdam goes, therefore, Jannik Sinner will become number 3 in the world, equaling Nicola Pietrangeli’s record as the highest-ranked Italian tennis player. If the South Tyrolean were to prevail in the final against Alex de Minaur he would take third place in the ATP rankings from the Russian Daniil Medvedev as early as Monday 19 February; if he were to lose, he would reach the best ranking the following week.
