The SIULP welcomes the establishment of the new State Police Station in Diamante, but harshly contests the draft decree sent by the Department of Public Security to the trade unions.
According to the union, the expected staffing would be insufficient and obtained exclusively by removing agents already in service in the province, without new reinforcements. A choice which – reports the SIULP – risks putting the Police Headquarters and the other police stations in Cosentino in even greater difficulty, already burdened by high workloads and reduced staffing.
The provincial secretary Ezio Scaglione recalls that the request for a garrison along the Cosenza Tyrrhenian Sea dates back to the suppression of the Cetraro Fixed Police Post. However, the current plan would not guarantee adequate safety standards: in Castrovillari and Paola the police service would not be guaranteed 24 hours a day, while Corigliano-Rossano would continue to operate with fewer staff than similar facilities in Calabria.
The union therefore calls for an overall review of the State Police staff in the province, “at least in line with other Calabrian situations”, and announces a formal request for a joint examination with the Chief of Police.
