THE ROS soldiers have executed an application order of precautionary measures of custody in prisonissued by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations of the Court of Catanzaro at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Catanzaro – District Anti-Mafia Directorate, charged to six Egyptians. I am accused of criminal association aimed at procuring the illegal entry of foreign migrants into the territory of the Italian State.

The investigations carried out by the ROS soldiers, under the direction of the Catanzaro Anti-Mafia District Directorate, started fromarrival from Libya near the Crotone coast, on 10 March 2023, of a migrant boat, recovered by the operational departments of the Guardia di Finanze and the Coast Guarda few days ago the tragic shipwreck of another migrant boat coming from Turkey, in the waters off Steccato di Cutro, on 26 February 2023, in which numerous migrants lost their lives. The investigations made it possible to outline the circumstantial gravity regarding the current operations of an organization dedicated to the trafficking of migrants from the Egyptian and Libyan coasts to the Italian ones, with the identification of the smugglers, as well as the pilot and captain of the crew. The proceedings for the alleged crimes are currently in the preliminary investigation phase.

The applause of Undersecretary Ferro

“Congratulations to the Carabinieri del Ros for the success of the operation coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Catanzaro, which led to the arrest of six Egyptian smugglers involved in a criminal organization dedicated to migrant trafficking. The complex and demanding investigation activity conducted by the ROS soldiers began with the arrival on the Crotone coast, a few days after the Cutro tragedy, of a boat loaded with migrants from Libya and rescued by the operational departments of the Guardia di Finanza and the Guardia Coastal. An investigation that once again demonstrates the importance of the Meloni government’s commitment in combating with determination one of the most odious businesses, human trafficking, which generates enormous profits for international criminal organizations that do not hesitate to put lives at risk of migrants who hope for a better destiny”. This is what the Hon. says. Wanda Ferro (Fdi)Undersecretary of the Interior.
