Radical change of scenario in the Municipality of Spadafora. Two days after the resignation of the mayor, Lillo Pistone, last August 2nd, the entire majority team left the municipal building. The councilors have in fact formalized their irrevocable resignation from office to the Secretary of the Institution, a decision for which the President of the City Council Andrea Giacobbo, in agreement with the deputy mayor Carlo Alberto Lamberto and the councilors Nino Miceli, Giuseppe Cannuli and Pinella Giacobbo, is now acting as institutional spokesperson.
The exponents of the majority – Andrea Giacobbo, Pinella Giacobbo, Flavia Ialacqua, Alessandro Cantilonne, Filippo Giordano and Sebastiano Pino, who are joined by Pasqualina Giannone, who resigned under the authority of being on duty outside Spadafora – have put down in black and white in a joint document the reasons for a choice literally defined as “extremely painful and considered”.
The collective step backwards marks the halt of the political and administrative project of the “Rinasce Spadafora” list, which has its synthesis and driving force precisely in the figure of the now resigning mayor. In the document, the resigning councilors paint a clear picture of the crisis, underlining first of all the impact of the recent and well-known judicial events involving the mayor, which have made a deep and responsible reflection on the continuation of the institutional mandate imperative.
The irrevocable resignation of Lillo Pistone, mayor and founder of the group, effectively suspends the line of political and programmatic continuity at the basis of the pact signed with the voters. According to the signatories, “due to this profound change in the political-institutional framework, the necessary conditions to guarantee the effectiveness, incisiveness and full operation of the administrative action to protect the community of Spadafora have disappeared”. At the same time, the group reiterates “the utmost trust in the work of the judiciary, framing and coordinating the difficult decision with rigorous respect for transparency, legality and institutions”.
Having acknowledged the impossibility of completing the electoral mandate, the councilors considered their resignation a dutiful act towards the citizens who had placed their trust in them. A necessary decision, we read in the declaration, to protect the dignity and integrity of the institutions and to be consistent with the principles that have always guided their personal and political lives.
The note ends with the heartfelt thanks of the entire council group to the community of Spadafora and the municipal offices for the path shared in recent years. With this communication from the Prime Minister, the start of the transition phase for the local authority is officially certified.
