The “CorriCapodanno in Taormina-Trofeo Chico Scimone” opened 2024 for Italian running yesterday. After four long years of absence, the Fidal event took place, now in its 46th edition, organized by the Marathon Club Taormina of president Carmelo Mobilia.
On a sunny morning, made enchanting by the landscape, the 130 participants, including ten of the “non-competitive” ones, gathered in Villagonia, where 14 daredevils have perpetuated the tradition of diving into the sea. The challenging race included a 7.5 km route, four of which were uphill, finishing in Piazza IX Aprile.
Saverio Amasi and Teresa Latella wrote their names on the competition’s roll of honour. The ritual awards ceremony, which took place in the center of the Pearl of the Ionian Sea, closed a sporting event with great charm for its history, origins, enchanting location and day.
