Taormina Federalberghi, 95% full facilities: Schuler “drought-related alarmism is unfounded”

“The hotels in Taormina are 95% full these days. The entire tourist season is going better than expected, with a massive presence of foreign tourists throughout Sicily. The Americans have even surpassed the Germans in terms of attendance”. This is what the president of Federalberghi Taormina Gerardo Schulerexplaining that the tourism sector is working at full speed. Referring to the recent controversy over some articles in the US media, Schuler clarifies that «the alarms about tourists fleeing Sicily because of the drought are unfounded. All customers arrive and leave satisfied, there is no alarmism». Schuler says that Sicilian hoteliers «have confirmed that there are no significant problems related to the water supply. There have been no significant cancellations. The only isolated case involved a small B&B in the historic center of Agrigento, which did not have adequate water reserves». «Sicilian hotels – he explains – have been well equipped with tanks and reserves of drinking water for many years. These reserves are accumulated during the year in periods of greater availability and pressure, ensuring a continuous supply. Furthermore, the hotel gardens are also watered with rainwater collected during the winter, demonstrating a sustainable use of resources».
