A huge quantity of cocaine, heroin, marijuana and hashish. The anti-drug operation “Lockdown”, carried out by the Carabinieri of Cosenza, has defeated a widespread drug dealing activity carried out in the city of Cosenza and in other cities of the province, also with the help of foreigners who have been operating permanently in the Cosenza area for years.

Over 400 incidents of drug dealing have been identified. The investigations also revealed the emblematic story of a woman (now under house arrest) who on several occasions allegedly procured drugs for her son, who at that time was unable to go to the suppliers because he was subject to a precautionary measure for another criminal proceeding.

During the operation nicknamed “Lockdown” ten suspects were arrested in flagrante delicto and various quantities of drugs were seized. cocaine, heroin, hashish and marijuana.

The investigative activity highlighted how drug dealing was incessant during the Covid emergency. The Carabinieri made use of numerous wiretaps, both environmental and telephone, but they also interviewed approximately 300 drug users who provided details of their purchase of the drug. Finally, the investigations revealed that some of the suspects, relying on the availability of firearms, had organised acts of intimidation against their ‘clients’ to force them to pay for the drugs.
