Giacomo Costa and Luana Perilli are the two artists whose works will remain on display at Palazzo Blasco, in the heart of Lamezia Terme, in the premises available to the International Culture Foundation. On the occasion of the inauguration of the Culture Med Hub – wanted by the foundation in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts of Catanzaro -, in fact, “Cantalamissa” and “Wheel n.1” sealed the birth of the space dedicated to art, culture, science and creativity that looks to the Mediterranean as a basin of inspiration and contamination for human and social development.

“Cantalamissa” showcases the work conducted by Luana Perilli during the project of the same name (2023-2024), developed on thebeloved phegeaa diurnal moth that accompanied the more or less cruel games and explorations of children throughout the Apennine Italy and which for this reason, more than other animals, found various names in the various dialects of the communities. For the Lametina exhibit, on display are the sticks and knobs made by the project participants during excursions along the Apennines and some of the silhouettes of the participants themselves created by the artist.

“Wheel n.1” is, however, a video installation created by the photographer and 3D video artist Giacomo Costa, born from his reflections on the contemporary economic model: «The development models we are pursuing and applying – explains Costa – they push us into a consumerist spiral from which it is very difficult to emancipate ourselves or even just try to slow down the pace that society imposes on us. To represent this reflection of mine, in the videos on display, the movement of the city and the observer follows an infinite loop from which it is impossible to escape. The frantic attempt to find a way out is frustrated by always returning to the starting point to repeat the same gesture again and again. This is the cyclical nature of certain historical phenomena, this is the grip of consumerism».

The works will remain on display – with free entry – until January 26th.

With its official entry into the Culture Med Hub, the Academy of Fine Arts of Catanzaro confirms its international vocation and role as a creative engine in the Mediterranean. The collaboration with the International Culture Foundation opens a common path of higher education, artistic research and cultural cooperation, laying the foundations for a network of exchanges that unites institutions, talents and creative visions. In this sense, the collaboration protocols signed with the Universiteti i Arteve of Tirana, the Université Constantine 3 of Algiers and the Université Islamique du Liban take on further importance, with which the project becomes a real laboratory of experiences, knowledge and new languages.

For the Academy, the Culture Med Hub represents not only an educational challenge, but an ethical and social commitment for a culture capable of connecting young artists, territories and identities in a present that looks to the future.
