Having closed the circle on the alleged material perpetrators of the massacre of the four laborers burned alive in Amendolara, the Castrovillari Public Prosecutor’s Office which coordinates the investigations of the Cosenza Flying Squad, now aims to establish what the motive was but not only that.
The working context and the phenomenon of gangmastering
The investigations, in fact, also tend to clarify the working context in which the quadruple murder took place and the role played by the two suspects, Safeer Ahmed and Ali Raza, 31-year-old Pakistanis. In particular, according to what has been learned, the investigators intend to verify what the working relationships of victims and suspects were with the companies in Scanzano (Potenza) where they had worked in recent weeks for the strawberry harvest and whether everything was in order. Furthermore, more generally, attention is focused on the phenomenon of gangmastering, to establish whether these workers were directed to the companies by individuals who “managed” them or whether the contacts were also direct.
Are the accused corporals or simple labourers?
In this regard, the investigators are also trying to clarify the role of the accused to establish whether they were real corporals – and possibly in whose service – or whether they were also laborers who however took advantage of a longer presence on Italian territory and the availability of a means of transport to be paid for by those who, however, had no way to get around. It would seem, in fact, that the minivan inside which the Pakistani Waseem Khan, 29 years old, and the Pashtun Afghans Amin Fazal Khogjani (28), Ullah Ismat Qiemi (19) and Safi Iayjad (27) were killed, was owned by one of the two arrested.
The two suspects will avail themselves of the right not to respond
The two suspects for the murder of four labourers, burned alive inside a minivan in Amendolara, will make use of the right not to answer, in the hearing to validate the arrest ordered by the Castrovillari Prosecutor’s Office, currently taking place in the prison of the city of Cosenza. This was said by one of the two lawyers assisting Safeer Ahmed and Ali Raza, both 31 years old, Pakistani, the lawyer Giovanni Brandi Cordasco Salmena. «We don’t know the documents – said the lawyer upon entering prison -. Our clients will certainly exercise the right not to respond.” The other defender is the lawyer Giulia Montilli.
