First time good? Not entirely. At the regional assembly of theAnci Calabriaconvened by the president Rosaria Succurro in Lorica, in Sila“absent”, even if someone connected for a few minutes on video, the mayors of the large cities of Calabria. And if Giuseppe Falcomatà and Nicola Fiorita, respectively mayors of Reggio and Catanzaro, preferred to intervene from their municipal rooms; the mayors of Cosenza, Vibo, Crotone, Corigliano-Rossano, Acri and Lamezia did not intend to be present at all.
A clear and probably agreed political signal. Are all the center-left absent? “No, several center-right colleagues are missing from the roll call…”, notes a mayor who is instead present on Lake Arvo. About 60 tricolor sashes in the front row, together with the prefect of Cosenza, Vittoria Ciaramella (who will be on duty in Latina starting next Monday) and Roberto Pella, acting president of the national Anci. With them also the general secretary Veronica Nicotra, the regional councilors Emma Staine and Rosario Varì, the police forces and Antonio Nicoletti, director of Legambiente national. And the president Roberto Occhiuto? He too was in a video link from the tenth floor of the Cittadella di Catanzaro. The governor underlined the closeness of the Calabria Region to the mayors and local communities but no mention of the “hottest” political topic in these hours: differentiated autonomy.
“Together we will take a united position on differentiated autonomy, to protect our territories”, the only passage of the president and host, Rosaria Succurro. “We are here, in this place that represents the great beauty of Calabria, to discuss local economic development, administrative decentralization, activities of Anci Calabria, environmental sustainability, the role of municipalities and other priority topics”, she remarked during her speech.
