Important operation by the Crotone Coast Guard in the context of activities to combat poaching and protect fish resources. The military seized 25 specimens of albacore tuna, with a total weight of approximately 250 kilograms.
The seizure occurred at the end of targeted maritime police checks, during which the illegal capture and detention of this species was ascertained, currently subjected to biological detention in the period between 1 October and 30 November. This measure aims to encourage natural repopulation and ensure sustainable extraction of marine resources.
Administrative fines totaling 3,500 euros were imposed on the offender, in addition to the seizure of the fish product.
The fish, subjected to health checks by the staff of the Provincial Health Authority of Crotone – Veterinary Services, was found fit for human consumption and, as per practice, was donated to local charities.
The Coast Guard’s activities will continue in the coming days, with the aim of protecting the marine ecosystem, combating illegal fishing practices and ensuring the traceability of the catch along the entire commercial chain.
