The Fermi-Brutium at “Linea Verde”: sport, inclusion and innovative teaching showcased on Rai1

On the afternoon of 15 January 2025 the Fermi-Brutium Institute, led by the school director Rosita Paradiso, took part in the filming of the Rai broadcast “Linea Verde”, broadcast on Saturday 31 January from 12.25 to 13.20 on Rai1. A journey through nature, history and innovation which saw students, teachers and local sports entities as protagonists in the heart of the city of Cosenza.

The activities took place in the municipal sports facilities of Viale Parco, within the management entrusted by the Municipality of Cosenza to Professor Oscar Alò. The students were engaged in orientation teaching and cooperative working activities, in collaboration with the departments of Motor and Sports Sciences and Area 5, supported by teachers Gerfoglio Iuliano, Yvonne Belcastro, Ida Corvino, Livio Farina and Emilia Maria Lucchetta.

The network with universities, CONI and the territory

Unical also took part in the project, with students from the Dual Career program and the degree course in Sciences and Technologies for motor and sports activities, coordinated by Professor Giuseppe Pellegrino, together with CUS Unical for the skating, football and volleyball sectors. CONI Calabria was present, with the support of the vice-president Francesca Stancati, as well as the local sports federations and associations, with the contribution of the CONI Cosenza provincial delegate Francesco Manna, member of the newly established Scientific Technical Committee of the institute.

The heart of the initiative were the outdoor sports laboratories located along Viale Parco, which involved disciplines such as orienteering, badminton, rugby, skating, water polo, equestrian sports, shooting and shooting, racket sports, athletics, cycling and cycle tourism, as well as team sports.

Inclusion, educational values ​​and student protagonism

The Fermi-Brutium expressed its thanks to the numerous federations and associations involved and a special applause to Luca Cavaliere’s ETS Totò For Special One, whose athletes represent a concrete example of participatory inclusion. To make the experience even more significant, the presence of notable technicians and teachers and high-level athletes, who contributed to creating a climate of enthusiasm and strong participation.

An opportunity of great educational value, which confirmed the central role of sport as a tool for personal growth, capable of promoting physical and mental well-being, cognitive and social development, promoting values ​​such as fair play, respect for rules and cooperation.

Professor Oscar Alò and the entire school community underlined the importance of teamwork and the commitment of the children, protagonists in the field and in building real skills. The next appointment is set for March 5, 2026, again in Cosenza, for a school that is increasingly open, inclusive and oriented towards active citizenship, in the wake of the educational project of the Fermi Scientific High School – Brutium Technical Centre.
