There is a new frontier of experiential tourism: no longer just holidays, but properties. Foreigners who choose Calabria to buy a house. A Mediterranean dream married with joy. And there’s a start-up, Gate-away.com, that delivers more than numbers. Founded in 2008 by Annalisa Angelotti and Simone Rossi after a period in the real estate sector in the United Kingdom, this project was created to give international visibility to the Italian real estate offer. The portal is dedicated exclusively to foreigners interested in buying a second home in Italy and encourages the meeting between foreign demand and national supply, while promoting the lifestyle and excellence of Made in Italy. In 2025, Calabria confirms – we read in a report that takes stock – its charm on international real estate buyers by attracting crystal clear sea, authentic villages and affordable prices.
Here is some data
The coast is the protagonist but the gaze goes beyond. Santa Maria del Cedro confirms itself at the top of the preferences with 19.44% of requests. Scalea follows among the most sought after locations, while Tropea maintains an iconic role placing itself in third place. Lombards (+86.15%) and Zambrone (+45.52%) are growing, symbolizing an interest increasingly oriented towards authentic places. Followed by Sant’Andrea Apostolo dello Ionio, Cetraro, Pizzo, and Maritime Belvedere. Cosenza leads foreign demand, followed by the growth of Vibo Valentia, confirming itself as one of the emerging areas. Catanzaro shows substantial stability, while Reggio Calabria and Crotone record a reduction in international demand.
