Occhiuto, great sadness, condolences Giunta

“I am saddened by the passing of Diego Tommasi, who has always been involved in environmental policies and territorial defense in Calabria. Several times regional administrator and political leader, his premature farewell undoubtedly leaves great sadness. Also on behalf of the regional council I express my condolences and a deep sense of closeness to his family”. Thus Roberto Occhiuto, president of the Calabria Region.

Caruso: man of great generosity

“The news of the passing of our friend Diego Tommasi, former councilor and regional councilor and prominent political figure in our region, saddens us enormously and takes us by surprise.” This was stated by the Mayor of Cosenza Franz Caruso who expressed his deepest condolences for the passing of Tommasi.
“A man of great generosity, he dedicated himself a lot to social work. As Councilor for the Environment in the regional council led by Agazio Loiero – underlines Franz Caruso – Diego Tommasi stood out for a series of initiatives to protect the ecosystem and the sea, giving impetus to multiple activities. Even more recently, as President of the “Ecological Alliance for Italy” – continues Mayor Franz Caruso – he had fought hard for the immediate application of the so-called “Salvamare” law, directing requests in this direction to the leaders of the Calabria Region, in the belief that the same law had finally filled a regulatory gap that made it possible to undertake a new phase against pollution from waste at sea, allowing fishermen who recovered it to take it to special ecological islands on land, also providing for of the most virtuous fishermen of awards. His openly ecologist attitude, also nurtured during his long militancy within the political formation of the Greens, was put at the service of the community especially during the years in which he was regional councilor and councilor for the environment of the Loiero council. A contribution, that offered by Diego Tommasi – states Franz Caruso again – typical of men and politicians of action and which he has carried forward tirelessly and with great commitment”.

Finally, Mayor Franz Caruso addressed his personal condolences and those of the entire municipal administration of Palazzo dei Bruzi to all the family members.

Succurro’s condolences

«I express deep condolences for the passing of Diego Tommasi, former councilor of the Calabria Region, a far-sighted politician who made a clear contribution to the development of our land». This was stated in a note by the president of the Province of Cosenza, Rosaria Succurro, who adds: «Over the years, Tommasi has also been very committed as an environmentalist, always offering authoritative testimony on the issues of ecology and sustainability, even before entered fully into the public debate. We will remember him – concludes Succurro – for his sense of institutions and for his strong political passion.”
