The Magna Graecia Film Festival kicks off with Costner, Robbins and Platini: international cinema returns to Catanzaro

An edition ready to amaze once again with the timeless charm of cinema and its protagonists. From tonight until August 4th, the Magna Graecia Film Festivalthe film festival conceived and directed by Gianvito Casadonte, now in its twenty-first edition, will bring great national and international cinema to the Calabrian capital.

On the red carpet set up in the Catanzaro port area, two great international stars will parade, the Oscar winners Tim Robbins and Kevin Costnerand then many protagonists of cinema, TV and music such as Raoul Bova, Claudio Bisio, Clara, Jerry Calà, Sigfrido Ranucci, Vinicio Marchioni, Giulio Golia, Edoardo Pesce, Andrea Lattanzi, Brando De Sica, Sarafine.

Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Calabria Straordinaria – brand of the Calabria Region – Department of Tourism, Calabria Film Commission, Municipality of Catanzaro, in collaboration with Yes Start Up Calabria and Lilt, The festival will come to life with sports legend Michel Platini who tomorrow evening will talk about his successes with Juventus and the French national team, going through his time as a coach and manager, up to becoming president of UEFA. He will be interviewed by journalist Federico Buffa. The event will be broadcast exclusively by Sky Sport.

The festival will then light up on Wednesday 31st with the screening of the first chapter of “Horizon – An America Saga”, the latest film written, directed and interpreted by Kevin Costner who will converse with Silvia Bizio who, on August 1st, will also interview Tim Robbins. Double appointment with the actor, director and screenwriter who On August 2nd he will perform in concert with his group “Tim Robbins and the Rogues Gallery Band”while, in his honor, “The Shawshank Redemption” will be screened on August 4, thirty years after its release in cinemas. International guests will receive the Golden Column created by the GB Spadafora Brand.

Among the other honorees and protagonists expected at the MGFF there is also the actor, director and producer Raoul Bova who will be present on August 3rd and will comment on the images of the documentary film “The Lost Beauty: Syria”already presented at the Venice Film Festival, in which he describes his experience as a volunteer and ambassador for the Italian Red Cross. Also on stage in the Porto area is actor Jerry Calà who will retrace the stages of his long career on Monday 29 at the MGFF.

Opening the program of films in competition, the directorial debut of Claudio Bisio who will open the festival with “The Last Time We Were Children”. The director Francesco Frangipane and the actor Edoardo Pesce will follow, accompanying the viewing of “From the Top of a Cold Tower”. The director Gianluca Santoni and the actor Andrea Lattanzi will present “Io e il secco”; Brando De Sica will launch the viewing of his film “Mimi the Prince of Darkness”. Also in competition are “Palazzina Laf” by Michele Riondino and “Flaminia” by Michela Giraud.

The first and second works of Italian feature films, with screenings in the port area, will be evaluated by a jury chaired by the actor and director Michele Alhaique and composed of the deputy director of Rai Fiction Ivan Carlei, the actresses Letizia Toni and Lucrezia Guidone, and the actors Francesco Brandi and Dino Abbrescia.
