Matteo Garrone’s film Io Capitano is also coming to Lampedusa together with the protagonists of the film, in an evening event of great emotion, for the 16th edition of The North Windthe festival organized with the coordination of Laura Delli Colli, the organization of Massimo Ciavarro who conceived it in 2008 and the consultancy of Giovanni Spagnoletti, which opens today in a special place that continues to experience cinema on the screen only once a year, thanks to this initiative. Twelve titles are scheduled and many meetings are organized for the girls and boys of the island.

«With LampedusaCinema, the association created to produce Il Vento del Nord every year – explains Laura Delli Colli – we are once again renewing an event that arises from the desire to make the passion for cinema contagious and share it with the spectators of a special place, which does not have a cinema, but also from the natural vocation of proximity of a real “middle earth” that, in a unique welcoming climate, coexists daily with the complex reality and difficulties of migration».
The festival will open with two first female works such as C’è ancora domani by Paola Cortellesi and Felicità by Micaela Ramazzotti, and continues tomorrow with an evening of great comedy presenting Romeo è Giulietta by Giovanni Veronesi and Volare, the film of the directorial debut of Margherita Buy who is also the protagonist. Monday 29th an evening for families starting with the traditional appointment for children, this year the animation by Enzo D’Alò with Mary and the Spirit of Midnight which is paired with, to follow, the film with which Claudio Bisio made his debut behind the camera, L’ultima volta che siamo stati bambini.

An evening still dedicated to comedy but also to the emotion of rallying on Tuesday 30 with Santocielo directed by Francesco Amato with Salvo Ficarra and Valentino Picone, and Race for Glory: Audi vs. Lancia by Stefano Mordini with Riccardo Scamarcio and Daniel Brühl. Then on Wednesday 31, two first works dedicated especially to the younger ones: Flaminia by Michela Giraud and Troppo azzurro by Filippo Barbagallo, before the grand finale in the name of solidarity with MUR by Kasia Smutniak who will present it on the evening of Friday 2, after the film inevitably most awaited by the public of Lampedusa – Io capitano, which will be presented on Thursday 1 by the protagonists of the film accompanied by Mamadou Kouassi Pli Adama, today an intercultural mediator and long committed to the themes of inclusion, the true protagonist of the story told by Matteo Garrone and who with his personal experience also collaborated on the screenplay of the film.

Furthermore, a new chapter in the traditional appointment with LampedusaLab, the training laboratory dedicated to high school students under the guidance of Prof. Giovanni Spagnoletti, coordinated for the School by Prof. Paola Dragonetti and created with the precious support of Siae and Fondazione Claudio Nobis. And it is precisely to the Fondazione Nobis and the coordination of the Sngci film journalists that we owe the project of the video library hosted in the premises of the High School, which becomes a reality after the years in which Rai Cinema had started an action of generous support for the kids of the island.
