Monday’s ceremony for the signing of the peace agreement between Israel and Hamas will be co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al Sisi and American President Donald Trump. This was written by the Cairo media, according to which the leaders of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Indonesia were officially invited. The summit, scheduled for Sharm el Sheikh, was the focus of a preparatory telephone conversation between Cairo’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel Aty, and his US counterpart Marco Rubio.
Italy will be represented by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Instead, the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, will represent the European Union tomorrow at the ceremony for the signing of the truce in Gaza scheduled in Sharm el Sheikh. A spokesperson reports this. So far the only EU member invited to the summit, according to European sources, was the High Representative Kaja Kallas, who however will not be able to be there. “This plan offers a real opportunity to build a just and lasting peace and the EU is fully committed to supporting these efforts and contributing to its implementation,” underlined Costa’s spokesperson.
