The procedural process continues so that the medical degree course, after Cosenza and Crotone, also becomes a reality in Reggio Calabria.

A new meeting coordinated by Giusi Princi, today a member of the European Parliament but who had followed the process on behalf of President Occhiuto.

They took part in the meeting Gianluigi Scaffidi, director general of the GOM, Giuseppe Zimbalatti, rector of the Mediterranean University, Pasquale Veneziano, president of the Medical Association of Reggio Calabria, Tomaso Calabrògeneral manager of the Health Department of the Calabria Region, Salvatore Costarella, GOM health director, Nicola Leone, rector of the University of Calabria, as well as president of the regional university coordination committee of Calabria (Coruc) and “valuable interlocutor in the project, having successfully activated the medical university in Cosenza”, explains Giusi Princi.

“It is a path – states the MEP – which is part of President Occhiuto’s mission to implement the training offer in Calabria, encouraging the quality of Calabrian healthcare through investment in human resources and the excellent professionalism that our land can express. It is important – he continues – that Reggio has its own medical faculty. In fact, the city boasts, among other things, an excellent healthcare facility such as the GOM. Once the entire administrative process has been completed and the costs required for activation have been quantified, we will submit the project to President Occhiuto for related support. With the abolition of the limited number in medicine, wanted by Forza Italia itself – highlights Giusi Princi -, it is important to be able to satisfy the greater needs that will come from an increasingly numerous audience of aspiring doctors. Reggio and Calabria – he concludes – respond to this important event with vision and planning, harbingers of opportunities given to young people and to Calabrian healthcare as a whole”.

During the fruitful meeting, in which all the participants expressed great enthusiasm, the timetable was defined which envisages, as the next step, another meeting on 27 January. Proud of the results, also the director of the GOM Gianluigi Scaffidi who, guaranteeing the availability of the premises also for the next appointment, highlighted how the roadmap has finally been resumed which, thanks to the Calabria Region and President Occhiuto, will lead to the realization of this significant project for the city.
