There are in the world 1.3 billion 5G subscriptions. Around 260 operators have launched 5G commercial services. They push India and China. This is data from Ericsson’s new Mobility Report, updated to the second quarter of 2023. India continues to lead the growth rate of 5G subscriptions globally, with more than seven million of the 175 million global subscriptions activated between April and June, according to quarter 2023. China records the second highest growth rate after India, with over five million 5G subscriptions in the second quarter alone, followed by the United States of America with over three million subscriptions. Furthermore, according to Ericsson’s Mobility Report, there are 8.3 billion mobile subscriptions worldwide, with a net addition of 40 million subscriptions during the second quarter of 2023. The number of unique mobile subscribers is 6.1 billion. Global mobile subscription penetration is 105%. The number of mobile broadband subscriptions grew by approximately 100 million in the second quarter, for a total of 7.4 billion, an increase of 5% compared to the previous year – explains the report -. 88% of mobile phone subscriptions are mobile broadband, meaning they also allow access to the Internet. Finally, for Ericsson, ‘mobile’ data traffic grew by 33% between the second quarter of 2022 and the second quarter of 2023. 4G subscriptions increased by 11 million, for a total of approximately 5.2 billion and represent 62% of all mobile subscriptions.
