The eighth edition of Valentia in festa will host speeches by great protagonists of politics, the judiciary and sport.

On Monday 20 October, at 08:45, Nicola Gratteri will present “Una cosa sola”, a book written by the magistrate with Antonio Nicaso. Having abandoned the blatant violence of the past, mafias today are truly global businesses, capable of managing complex economic transactions, hiding their earnings through money laundering and collaborating with large international crime networks. Their power now extends everywhere, from Europe to Latin America, from Africa to Asia, infiltrating institutions and undermining the stability of local economies. Thanks to a refined strategy of camouflage, taking advantage of weak rules and the complicity of white collar workers, the mafias have insinuated themselves into many key sectors, such as finance, large-scale works, renewable energy and real estate. From tax havens to digital financial circuits, their illicit activities are now an essential part of the global economic system. Through a lucid and documented analysis, direct testimonies and case studies, Gratteri shows how this increasingly close link between the mafia, politics and entrepreneurship is compromising not only citizens’ trust in institutions, but also the growth and economic development of corrupt countries.

Also on Monday, at 10.30am Giuliano Amato will be the protagonist of the conference “The value of the Constitution in the dialogue between generations”. Twice president of the Council of Ministers, Amato has been a constitutional jurist and professor of comparative constitutional law at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” for over 20 years. On 12 September 2013 he was appointed judge of the Constitutional Court and from 29 January 2022 to 18 September of the same year he was its president.

Tuesday 21 October, at 09:30, Stefano Tacconi will present “The art of blocking. Finding the courage to face life’s throws”. In Stefano Tacconi’s life there is a first and a second half, with a watershed date being 23 April 2022. In the first half he was one of the most representative players of legendary football, when Serie A was truly “the most beautiful championship in the world”, the point of arrival for true champions. With his courage and his gallantry, between 1983 and 1992 Tacconi was the goalkeeper and symbolic player of Juventus, capable of taking up the legacy of a totem like Dino Zoff, sharing the dressing room, among others and over the seasons, with “Le Roi” Platini, Gaetano Scirea, Marco Tardelli, Gianluca Vialli.

Also on Tuesday, at 11:30, Antonio Ingroia will present “Traditi”. The history of the fight against the mafia is above all a story of great betrayals, as well as of great men who sacrificed themselves for the cause. In fact, the protagonists have all been, in some way, betrayed by someone. Antonio Ingroia, now a lawyer, in a passionate and unapologetic dialogue with Massimo Giletti, tells his truths as a left-wing magistrate betrayed by the political left.
