The vote in Messina, those elected to the Council: five incumbents confirmed in the South calls the North. Subrogations soon?

There is no official announcement yet and we will probably have to wait a few more days, but the structures of the new city council now seem to be outlined, with some doubts still linked to the sections (less than twenty) that are missing. The certainty is that the area in support of Federico Basile elects 20 councillors, divided as follows: 7 in South calls North, 4 in Basile Mayor of Messina, 3 in Messina Protagonist, I love Messina and Federico for Messina.

Serena Giannetto, the most chosen among the Deluchian candidates, the outgoing president Nello Pergolizzi, and the former councilor for Civil Protection Massimiliano Minutoli return to the Chamber as incumbents, well exceeding the thousand votes. And then Nicoletta D’Angelo, the former councilor for youth policies Liana Cannata, Antonella Feminò and Sara Di Ciuccio, who in 2022 was elected with ScN, then moved to Forza Italia and, at the beginning of this electoral campaign, returned “to the origins”. Currently two of the elected ones, Minutoli and Cannata, are also designated councilors and could give way, with surrogates, to the first of the non-elected ones, who would be Alessandra Calafiore (also a designated councillor), Giuseppe Busà and Valeria Asquini.
All new entries on the Basile Mayor list: the doctor Nicola Maddocco, the architect Calogero Brancatelli, the entrepreneur Valentina Capone and the director of the Polfer Ciccio Benedetto. Famous faces on the Messina Protagonist list: the former president of Amam Paolo Alibrandi, the entrepreneur Antonino Bonfiglio, son of the former councilor Biagio, and Alessandro La Cava, former board member of Arisme.
In Amo Messina there is a return, that of Peppe Chiarella, who moved to ScN after the break with the centre-right, which preferred Nicola Cucinotta to him for the candidacy for the presidency of the fourth district. Paired with him is the Olympic champion Silvia Bosurgi, for the first time, as well as Lino Summa. Finally, the Federico list for Basile, with another tandem, the outgoing Mirko Cantello (former Lega) and his sister-in-law Cetty Pirone, wife of the former budget councilor of Giardini Naxos (and former municipal councilor) Ivano. Together with them the doctor Francesco Asciutto.

With the majority bonus also in place in this round, the opposition has twelve seats left. The “leadership” of the anti-Basile rightfully falls to the first of the non-elected mayoral candidates, Marcello Scurria, who has already declared that he has no intention of leaving his seat. The centre-right has eight other councillors: in some cases these are confirmations, in others returns, in still others absolute debuts. There is still uncertainty about a seat, which “dances” between the League, which says it is certain of having won two, and the Brothers of Italy, which instead still hopes to be able to obtain a third. The two certains among the Melonians are Libero Gioveni and Dario Carbone, in third place, champing at the bit, is the former vice-president of the fourth district Debora Buda. In the League, however, in first place is Amalia Centofanti, in second Cosimo Oteri, who walked in tandem with the former throughout the entire electoral campaign. For all four, the two from FdI and the two Northern League members, this would be a confirmation.

Two Marcello Scurria mayors were elected on the list and, in this case, there are two returns: Simona Contestabile was elected twice when she was in the ranks of the Democratic Party, in 2008 and 2013, while Pippo Capurro is a veteran of Palazzo Zanca (his first time dates back to 1994), former Forza Italia, with a past also in the Margherita. A veteran is also the Genoese Benedetto Vaccarino, who together with the lawyer Anna Sorbello, with whom he was paired in Popolari and Autonimisti, is among the most voted ever (as was, after all, his daughter four years ago). Finally, there are three boxes for the Democratic Party: the certainties concern Mariella Perrone (former UDC, former provincial councilor) and the outgoing Alessandro Russo, while the mayoral candidate Antonella Russo seems to have the upper hand over the outgoing group leader Felice Calabrò.
