Cosenza and its province lashed by bad weather, with fierce gusts of wind, which caused a series of accidents. Due to a fallen traffic light, a tragedy was almost reached in via Misasi. Elsewhere, tiles flew from the roofs, felled trees and debris carried away by the wind required numerous interventions by the firefighters busy clearing the streets and restoring traffic.
The civil protection of Castrolibero was called to remove a tree that was blocking the passage in the Ortomatera district.
The fire brigade teams were particularly active throughout the province, in particular in Rende and San Filiwhere widespread damage and tree falls were reported, causing traffic to go haywire.
The strong gusts tore down many advertising signs, further increasing the chaos in the busiest areas. Another significant inconvenience was the frequent electricity blackouts, which interrupted power supplies in various neighborhoods of the city and surrounding areas. Added to these outages were problems with communications, with numerous users reporting difficulties with telephone services.
Gusts of wind and rain were also recorded starting from 8pm yesterday in the provinces of Catanzaro and Crotone. The bad weather, therefore, moved from the Cosentino area to the Catanzaro and Crotone areas (Poggiopudano locality).
The gusts of wind and rain – real bombs of water mixed with the strong wind – alternated with moments of pause. Luckily, given the time, few were still out on the streets. In the province of Vibo Valentia the area most affected is that of Serra San Bruno.
