The circle has now definitively closed. The bis trial for the murder of the worker Tonino Maiorano reached its epilogue yesterday afternoon, at the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Catanzaro, which confirmed a conviction, reduced the sentence of one defendant and acquitted another. As in the first instance, Pietro Lo Faro was acquitted (the public prosecutor had asked for a 30-year sentence) defended by the lawyers Sabrina Mannarino and Rizzo. While the sentence for Alessandro Pagano has been reformulated (he would have acted as a relay and led the killers into error) which drops from 30 to 20 years. Pagano reportedly reported to the fire command that the victim “was sitting on a seat in front of the entrance to the Paola stadium: he was wearing sunglasses, had graying hair and was reading the newspaper”. Finally, the 30-year sentence for Romolo Cascardo, the shoemaker who offered the logistics base in his shop, was confirmed. In the Ghoth trial we remember that it emerged how Cascardo “procured the weapons and contributed to the payment of the price of the murder to the hitmen”. Furthermore, justice collaborator Adamo Bruno had also reported that «the “Romoletto” shoemaker’s shop had also been a logistical base during the ambushes, used to change clothes and hide weapons».
