Seven employees of the Provincial Health Authority of Reggio Calabria, working in the Bovalino health centre, are under investigation for interruption of public service, aggravated fraud, false certification in service and theft of electricity.
The names of the suspects
Domenico Mittiga (Platì, 07.21.1961); Leo Morabito (Locri, 05.05.1977); Giuseppina Antonia Rodinò (Bruzzano Zeffirio, 07.21.1958); Francesco Nirta (San Luca, 09.22.1957); Domenico Clemente (Taranto, 04.11.1957); Giuseppe Giorgio (Bovalino, 20.11.1968); Gerardo Perozzielo (Lamezia Terme, 07.22.1977).
The police of the Bovalino station notified them of the warranty notices, on the orders of the Locri prosecutor’s office directed by Giuseppe Casciaro, as part of an investigation which revealed a widespread phenomenon of absenteeism in the local health company. The investigations, which began in June 2022, reconstructed how employees illegally stamped company badges for themselves and for absent colleagues, simulating their presence on duty and unduly receiving wages that were not due, instead dedicating their working hours to personal errands, shopping and other activities.
The Army soldiers, through shadowing, observation services and video surveillance systems, documented how the practice was widespread, structured and consolidated.
