Those who… return to Calabria: the four from Aicotur “recall” their roots

The rediscovery of the countries in which their ancestors lived and from which they migrated, through a form of experiential and identity tourism to reconnect with the history of their family, helping to combat the depopulation of small towns. It is roots tourism, which is also among the objectives of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan for the valorization of one’s origins, aimed at an audience estimated at over eighty million Italian-descendants in the world.
An idea that seems tailor-made for the Canadians of Siderno and the Australians of Martone and Platì; for the Belgians and Luxembourgers of Mammola and the Americans of the archipelago of countries that give life to Little Italy. To strengthen this type of tourist offer, a year and a half ago four Calabrian municipalities created Aicotur (Italian Association of Roots Tourism Municipalities). These are Celico and Cleto from Cosenza; Falerna for the province of Catanzaro; Gerace, in Reggino, where the association is based.
