Today in Palermo the Mondello Prize and the Super winner

Donnaregina” (Mondadori) by Teresa Ciabatti, “Col dark me la vedo io” (Einaudi) by Anna Mallamo, “Festa con cassowary” (Sellerio) by Leonardo San Pietro are the three winning novels of the Italian Opera section of the fifty-first edition of the Mondello International Literary Prize, promoted by the Sicilia Foundation in collaboration with the Circolo dei Readers Foundation and the Turin International Book Fair.
Chosen by a Selection Committee made up of writers and literary critics Evelina Santangelo, Gaetano Savatteri and Igiaba Scego, together with Maria Concetta Di Natale, president of Fondazione Sicilia, and Annalena Benini, editorial director of the Turin International Book Fair, the three authors will be awarded today, at 5.30 pm, at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, during a ceremony in which one of the three will be awarded the Prize SuperMondello, indicated by readers of twenty-four bookstores throughout Italy.
The Mondello Critica Prize will then be awarded to Tommaso Braccini with “Adventures and misadventures of the classics” (Carocci) and Thea Rimini with “Resistant characters. The literary and cinematographic imagination of the anti-fascist struggle” (Treccani), while the Special Jury Prize goes to Carlo Greppi for “Figlia mia. Vita di Franca Jarach, desaparecida” (Laterza) and to Rosa Matteucci for “Cartagloria” (Adelphi).
The Special Award of the President of the Sicily Foundation was awarded to Stefania Auci, and the Camilleri Centenary Award of the Lauro Chiazzese Foundation for Art and Culture to Diego De Silva.
The Foreign Author Award instead goes to the Mexican writer Valeria Luiselli, chosen by the single judge Donatella Di Pietrantonio and proclaimed last October 3 in Turin as part of the Portici di Carta festival.
