The Calabria Region is confirmed as the protagonist in promoting inclusion and accessibility, also in the tourism sector. Thanks to the participation in the public notice issued with the interministerial decree of 1 August 2024, which provides for the distribution of 50 million euros of the Single Fund for the inclusion of people with disabilities, the Region presented an ambitious and concrete project: “Inclusive Calabria, a trip for everyone”.

“The project – says the Councilor for Social Policies of the Calabria Region, Caterina Capponi -, financed by the Ministry with over 2 million euros, is among the selected initiatives to be carried out in 2025. Calabria is opening its doors to a future without barriers. Today we are not only talking about tourism, but of rights, inclusion, of a territory that embraces every person without distinction “.

“A journey – Capponi remarks – should not have obstacles, but only new experiences to live. That’s why making our region accessible to everyone is a mission that concerns us.
Accessibility is an opportunity. Accessibility is a commitment. Accessibility is the heart of a Calabria that welcomes. For this reason inclusive Calabria, a journey for everyone: because every story deserves to be lived without borders “.

With a spending commitment of 2,021,051.00, the project will be divided into different lines of intervention, all aimed at improving accessibility for people with disabilities.

The main areas of action concern the equipped beaches, with the installation of walkways and Job chairs to ensure access to the sea; equipped transport, with the strengthening of the means of transport suitable for people with disabilities; reception services, for the promotion of tourist facilities without architectural barriers, complete with accessible information and communication services; awareness campaigns, through educational activities aimed at the community to enhance the principle of inclusion; Accessible tourism and the guide “Holiday information” on accessible tourist services, with integrated routes for assistance and wellness opportunities for people with disabilities.

The realization of the project will take place in close collaboration with the 19 social territorial areas (ATS) involved, which affect a total of 116 municipalities in the regional coastal strip. This model of territorial governance will guarantee capillarity and integration between local institutions and communities.
