Tragic road accident this afternoon on the Messina-Catania motorway. A car in transit in the direction of the Peloritan capital was crashed into the wall of the tunnel at the Taormina junction and the impact was fatal for the driver.
On board the car, a Fiat Panda, there was a 85 year old man resident in Roccalumera, Giuseppe Pirrone, who lost his life instantly after the violent impact against the reinforced concrete structure. The Taormina 118 ambulance, the Giardini Naxos traffic police and the Letojanni fire brigade were on site. The exit ramp was closed by the Motorway Consortium staff to allow rescue operations.
